What it is
The abdomen tends to be the area in which most people stock stubborn fat. This excess fat can be caused by many things such as weight fluctuations, childbirth, genetics, stress and aging. Many patients seek to have a toned, flat abdomen but cannot seem to achieve their goal through diet and exercise alone. Abdominoplasty, more commonly referred to as “Tummy Tuck”, can help tighten and flatten the abdominal area. Through an incision that is hidden in the undergarment line, Dr Rizis tightens the muscles and reduces and/or removes excess fat and skin.
Abdominoplasty greatly improves:
Sagging skin
Stubborn abdominal fat
Loose muscles
Options
Tummy tucks are often performed in combination with other surgeries. The most common is the “Mommy Makeover”, where the abdominoplasty and Mastopexy, are performed on the same day.
Approximate duration of surgery:
2-3 hours
Anesthesia
Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia.
Post-Op Care
Abdominoplastys are often performed as day surgeries. You will therefore be home on the first night and for the remainder of your recovery. Occasionally, patients stay in the recovery room overnight, but are never kept more than 24 hours. Dr Rizis will see you within the first 24 hours and again in the first 5 days to assess your skin and scar as well as remove sutures and drains. Recovery continues for a few weeks until the swelling has significantly subsided. Most patients resume normal activities such as work, driving, and showering within the first 15 days.
Potential Risks & Complications
Although unlikely, all surgical procedures pose potential health risks. During the pre-operative consultation, Dr Rizis will go over all possible risks and complications as well as pertinent procedure information.
